"It diminished her, helped cost her a record 24th Grand Slam title and, worst of all, robbed Naomi Osaka of the spotlight she so richly deserved for winning her first title."https://usat.ly/2wWBN4f

Diminished herself..you and I were not watching the same match. McEnroe and Nastase could say and do ANYTHING and not be penalized. Straight BS!

McEnroe was disqualified at the Aus Open and so was Nastase at an ATP event, versus Ashe.

Actually scratch that, Nastase was dq’d several times. The Ashe example was notable since it was a double dq, Ashe resigned in protest over Nastase antics and abuse and Nastase was then dq’d.

It's NOT diminishing to stand-up for yourself. Ramos has double standards and it shouldn't be tolerated. In his career, he hasn't issued penalties for similar circumstances to male tennis players. Osaka played a wonderful game. Shame on the media for misportraying the event.

Maybe instead of forcing athletes to have to 'overcome bad calls' from officials, we recognize that they've been unfairly wronged. Athletes are humans with emotions. Don't frustrate them with unfair calling and expect them to just slide off their back.

They are professionals, expected to act like one. It's unfair Bec this ump consistently makes these calls against players i.e. Djokovic and her sister Venus? Give me a break. Not everything is a battle about race, or sexism.

Serena playing the victim & saying its because she's a woman? She acted appallingly and way too many people are agreeing with her. The umpire called it right. She ruined the occasion for Naomi Osaka who hero worships her. She should apologise. #UsOpenFinal #USOpen

Unfortunately, many don't see it this way! She stood up for what she believed. Its appalling to be accused of cheating when you have played the game all of your life, be a role model to many including her sister, and fought so hard for gender equality.

Good Tweet. I get that it's been a tremendous struggle. But it doesn't help her cause for women's equality to act on court like this. She's so sure she's right. Would do her good to say sorry. Her press conference showed she thought she had done nothing wrong.

If this is the case, it probably would do both of them good to apologize (her for what could be deemed as unsportsmanlike conduct and him for exercising his male macho power).

That's your opinion, fair enough. I hear he is always this strict. Rafa and Uncle Tony fell out with him. I watched it live and thought he was spot on. He took no pleasure taking the action he did. He seems to be taking the flak and media protecting Serena yet again.

Oh, I'm sorry Elizabeth, we'll have to disagree. She absolutely received the right action for her actions, which are like a nasty split child, when she's losing. She needs to take responsibility.

Until you have walked a mile in her shoes as an African American woman and dominated as an athletic in a White main steam sport, in a male dominated world, born in Compton and achieved the excellence of character, integrity, grace, & humility that she has-refrain from judgment.
