This is a lot of the problem with media outlets: this sensationalist and emotionally-drive headline would never be printed in the USA Today. But the agency/kid responsible for running the Twitter feed for them is taking a far more activist stance. Just give us the news, please.

Would it be so hard to just talk about the tennis? Why is the rest of it even in the story. Serena deserves to break the record because she is a tennis beast not because she has more tolerant views. #sillyheadlinewriters

This article cheapens @serenawilliams accomplishments. She deserves to win because of her passion, drive and mastery of the sport of tennis. The fact that she could beat the record of a bigot is irrelevant. This article does nothing but stir up controversy where this is none.

Is the writer of this article gay or just needed something controversial to tie in with Serena and the story? Is that even necessary to speak about? You are using Serena as a vehicle to write a whole article about somebody who is a homophobe in time when this was frowned upon.

Instead of dismissing Court as a homophobe for her BELIEF, you should demonstrate why you BELIEVE she is wrong. And 99.9% of people, including Court, were sickened and saddened by the Orlando shooting. Using Serena’s tweet to demonstrate how she is better is shallow. Be better.
