It’s sad. As the age of retirement gets higher & higher, this mentality also increases. People over 60 lose their jobs various reasons, and are replaced. They can’t tell you its because of your age, thats illegal. Then the same happens when they try & find a new job

I'm going through this myself. I'm in my 50s. It's a nightmare and could leave me impoverished. They won't HIRE YOU. You certainly can't change careers which is a HUGE problem because my career track which involved almost a decade of post-graduate education is pretty much dead.

I wish the age of employer loyalty still existed. Careers for those of us born in the 80’s and later are alll screwy because we can’t count on loyalty-for-loyalty.
-
I was born in the 60s. People are no more loyal to me than they are to you. Loyalty started going out the window just as I was entering the job market in the 1980s. It has gotten WORSE since that time. There was employer/employee loyalty back when I was a child in the 70's.

Happens all the time to teachers. They push out the older EXPERIENCED teacher to hire a younger cheaper teacher. Win/Win for the districts.
-
It's worse at the college level. I kept trying to work my way into faculty as an adjunct. The problem was, they had me for virtually nothing, why should they actually pay a living wage? Apparently, a doctorate from a medical school was only worth $2700/course/semester to them.
