If you're middle class and live in these cities, you can probably no longer afford a home. https://usat.ly/2KYDOSi pic.twitter.com/h0ty141Uur

Obviously the solution is to raise the minimum wage to $15. 😒🤦🏻‍♂️

And what is the common thread in all of these cities? I’ll give you a hint. They all talk non-stop about income inequality.

By “city” they actually mean metro area which is essentially all of Fairfield County. Studies like these often focus on the metro areas but then refer to them as a city.

I’d love to see a real journalist ask the question that none of them seem to want an answer to. How can one political party run a city decade after decade and still run political campaigns “for the working class” when they don’t care if those same people can afford housing.

These really are metro areas. As noted, Wash DC includes Va and Md suburbs. No one party controls all of that. These areas have an affluent, well-educated population with higher than average paying jobs. That pushes housing costs up as land is scarce. Supply and demand.

DC suburbs are all run by one party.

Middle income would be defined differently in those cities. National averages don't really make sense.

And then...... news organizations will run a story about how housing has “rebounded” from the recession. Is this what rebounding looks like? Watch for more homeless camps as average hardworking Americans cannot afford a mortgage or rent.
