In a 2007 pregnancy, YoLanda Mention's #preeclampsia was treated without incident. During her 2015 pregnancy, the high blood pressure returned. https://usat.ly/2OgpRlE pic.twitter.com/HQQmwgxoZh
YoLanda gave birth to a beautiful baby girl who she and Marco, her husband of 11 years, named Serenity. YoLanda complained of headache and her recorded blood pressures were dangerously high. She was sent home anyway.pic.twitter.com/GVr62ZovvC
The headache didn’t fade. Less than a full day after discharge, YoLanda and Marco arrived at the ER. When a nurse took her blood pressure it was an alarming 209 over 117.pic.twitter.com/r6I9978za2
They waited more than four hours. Marco pleaded for a doctor. In the triage room, YoLanda suffered a massive brain hemorrhage. She died three days later at the age of 38.
YoLanda didn’t die from some unforeseen childbirth complication. What killed her didn’t take any expensive, high-tech equipment to detect and treat, her husband alleges in a lawsuit.

The older girls tell their mom stories when they visit her grave. Serenity, now 3, knows "Mommy" as the woman in photographs in her grandmother's curio cabinet.
Like thousands of women every year, YoLanda's family alleges in a lawsuit that she didn't get care long recommended by experts. If you have a story like YoLanda's, here is a place to share it: http://50k.usatoday.com #1of50K
