Single-use straws are the scourge of the packaging-waste world because they don’t easily biodegrade and because really, they aren't necessary for most people when it comes to gulping a soft drink. https://usat.ly/2HS9ck5 pic.twitter.com/A7unGVqisI

Except that some of us don't like the idea of putting our lips and mouth on the rim of a cup that has been handled by someone else. . . have you ever noticed a food service person carry a cup with their hands right where you will soon be drinking?

Considering the EU is about to forbid plastic cutlery and straws it's about time to test alternatives somewhere. They had alternatives to the plastic sundae cups and abdoned them so they should give up on plastic completely

Why not get the hired help to drink the liquid and when appropriate regurgitate the liquid into the customers plastic, or paper, cup or mouth, avoiding straws altogether!

For years we only had paper straws, why is everybody acting as though this is a new concept. There use to be a company Dixie Straws.

so if they are testing paper straws then how are they going to stop a paper straw from turning into mush and slopping into a cold beverage and becoming a choking hazard??

If that were to actually happen to you, then I would call that a “Darwin Extinction” moment! Here’s a tip- drink your beverage, dispose it and not return to it after a full day with a paper straw turning to mush in it! Happy future evolving to you!
