I love books and learning, but some of the most inventive people I have met in life weren't book smart enough to enter good colleges.

When I graduated from college I felt like the victim of an enormous scam. I still feel that way many years later. I was able to pay for my tuition by working almost full-time and graduated debt free. Imagine the anger and disillusionment kids graduating today must feel.

Reading between the lines: public schools are doing a dismal job preparing kids for college — but colleges want that sweet sweet tuition money — so they’ll conveniently lower their entrance requirements.

I was the second highest note in my LSAT ... and I despise the legal system.

More "dumbing down" of higher education. We need more skilled workers, so train them in concrete curriculum instead of philosophy, etc. So who needs an elite college.

I feel like this is the wrong approach to get more minority students into top universities, because the school is essentially excluding better qualified students.

it's a double edge sword. The college can now create their own test which allows them better control over applicantion criteria but also makes them more responsible for acceptance numbers. I could see ACT and SAT tying themselves up with some accreditation companies as a result

Gotta make SAT optional gotta cover up that blacks and Latinos don’t do as well on them as Asians whites and Jews

Have you seen the deplorable state of Chicago public schools which has the highest percentage of minority children. How do you expect them to do well on a test that requires train and practice to do well on. I think it is a great idea.
-
Doing well on Standardize test have been shown not to have a significant effect how well you do well in college. It only test how well you do well on a test you prepared. ACT/SAT test how well you will do well on that test and that's it
-
They can show that people who do better on these test had better educative and economic outcomes. The only reason that’s not a smoking gun is that can’t separate out the variable of them having gone to better colleges which selected them based on these test.
