The @SocialSecurity admin predicts it will have to use reserve funds this year, kicking of a trend that will deplete the reserves by 2034. When congress borrows from the trust, it pays the money back with interest. Congress using the fund as a “piggy bank” is actually one of the main sources of revenue for the trust fund.
