To see such sentiments expressed by a member of Congress is shameful, and they cannot be allowed to go unanswered. I welcome the statements from congressional leaders and others who have condemned her tweets. (cont'd)

I also welcome Rep.
@IlhanMNs's own statement today, acknowledging the reality of contemporary anti-Semitism and offering an “unequivocal apology” for the use of anti-Semitic tropes, can serve as the basis for an important conversation going forward.Show this thread -
Moving forward, I urge Rep.
@IlhanMN to engage with members of the Minnesota Jewish community, as well as with national Jewish leaders, to explore the pain her words have caused and the impact of perpetuating anti-Semitic themes.Show this thread -
I also urge Rep.
@IlhanMN to consider how she can use her powerful platform to amplify messages that elevate national discourse and encourage respect for all people. We stand ready to do that critical work with her and other leaders.Show this thread

Rabbi, I can only speak for myself, but I can't believe I'm alone in wondering why she's being singled out (rightly, not without reason) but the minority leader of the H of Reps, can get away with this with almost no outcry:pic.twitter.com/uvhvpyLsEy

It is because the majority of republican voters don't actually care about weeding out antisemitic tropes and Jewish conservatives will bite the bullet to support the GOP as they have been better for Israel in terms of policy. The GOP cares more about winning than being good.
