After basketball victories, students light bonfires on Franklin street, scale lamp posts, and climb trees.
When was the last time UNC released a statement detailing their concern about the “dangerous and unlawful” activity following a big win? #WeCallBShttps://youtu.be/54vBxWpYTNo

Lesson here? When our students get frustrated with the political process, they don’t work harder to find a solution, they deface public property. I understand the distaste for what many believe the statue represents, but this strategy doesn’t translate into anything constructive.

Lady, respectfully you have no idea. For years students, faculty & community have: engaged in sit-ins, distributed flyers, informed
#UNC legally that Sam violates the Civil Rights Act, attended BOG and BOT meetings, launched a boycott, and Maya Little used civil disobedience. -
And the administration has refused to even acknowledge or speak to the movement.

So the Colosseum should torn down? As the Romans enslaved many an African and forced them to fight in the arena. Or maybe Christians should year it down as they were persecuted for their religion and fed to lions. The common man in the confederacy was not fighting for slavery

Nor was this statue commemorating the enslavement of people. The statue commemorates students yhat.left their studies and went to war

I guess we just disagree (which is okay with me) I say keep it up, we keep up so many other monuments that could be divisive. This one is quite tame compared to others.

Thank you to past generations who engaged in "unlawful and dangerous" activity to ensure we have equal rights today.pic.twitter.com/yedFP8VSsm

That right there is a peaceful protest and very lawful. Vandalism and defacing property is illegal. The argument for the removal of the statue is valid. But vandalism is not.
-
It wasn't lawful. They were arrested.
-
I don't mean to redirect, but it is obvious to everyone that during the Civil Rights era the cops were corrupt, racist, and did not uphold the Constitution or its principles
-
Phew. Good thing those days are over.
-
They aren't! Cops today still abuse the Constitution and do not uphold its principles!
-
You missed some sarcasm, I think.
-
Probably
