Statement from U Mass's Dr. Andrew Zimmerman makes clear his affidavit on vaccines and autism has been mischaracterized. @PeterHotez has a rebuttal in @thehill today to the piece they ranhttps://thehill.com/opinion/healthcare/425444-vaccines-cannot-and-do-not-cause-autism-theres-no-debate …

@thehill Do you plan to issue a correction? -
That’s not good enough. Disgraceful

Two points. A. Dr. Zimmerman is still making unsupported claims about
#vaccines and autism. B. It’s clear that the bigger risk to children with mitochondrial disorders, in his view, are the diseases the antivaccine movement is using his affidavit to bring back. -
His unsupported statements about
#vaccines and autism are used to put the children he claims he worries about at risk. That’s what he contributed to with his affidavit.

Dr. Zimmerman is being disingenuous. While it's true
@SharylAttkisson misrepresented the SIGNIFICANCE of his affidavit, she did NOT misrepresent its substance. He has no one to blame but himself antivaxers are using him as a useful idiot. It's what he is.https://respectfulinsolence.com/2019/01/17/zimmerman-useful-idiot-for-antivaxers/ … -
As a firm Believer in VACCINES, my CRONE -SIDE is starting to think... In lieu of mandatory vaccinations, SOME folks are ALWAYS going to willingly choose Hurting themselves & Others. Perhaps they should just “Thin their own herd” With the REST of US taking EXTRA MEDICAL care.

Why is he still on your faculty if he continues to push this anti-vaccine nonsense
-
His statement is not at all clarifying. He needs to either take a hard line against antivax nonsense or admit that he is opposed to the scientific consensus.

1) The comments here are ridiculous. He stated unequivocally that he supports vaccines. He also says that in his research he has found some patients are at risk for regression under certain circumstances. This all or nothing attitude is why more and more are rejecting vaccines
