  6. 1918 was an important step, but it was another ten years before men and women's voting rights were equal. The Representation of the People (Equal Franchise) Act 1928 meant women achieved the same voting rights as men.

  8. On this day Parliament passed the first law allowing some women to vote: the Representation of the People Act 1918. To vote, women had to be over 30 and own land or premises above a certain value, or be married to a man who did. The Act also allowed all men over 21 to vote.
