"They should go to mandatory rehabilitation." This is our future President @JoeBiden saying this. Today. He's right. Expanded mandated treatment is coming. @chesaboudin @MattHaneySF @LondonBreed @SupStefani @SF_DPH @DOPEproject @sfbos https://twitter.com/Breaking911/status/1301616121859186688 …

They were willing. My guess? They probably saw the mandate as a result of own doing. Didn’t get a resentment against cops, courts. Honestly I think we should be focusing on PREVENTION. because once someone is an addict it’s questionable if they’ll ever willingly give it up.

And I think this is key. An addict needs to see the hardships they encounter as their OWN fault. Otherwise it’s just another resentment, another reason for self pity, another reason to get high. But there’s no simple answer. No one size fits all.

And nobody gets locked up for using. Dealing and possession yes, violent crime and posses yes, stealing and posses yes. But plain possession in low qualities, first offense, rarely. I guess I think we should make it as hard/painful as possible to use and easy street to quit.

@MyTwolffamily Are you open to other ideas or just supporting Mental Health Sf and Biden’s plans for mandatory rehab?

I realize there is no one size fits all model to treating homelessness and drug addiction. But lately, there has been a growing movement attacking abstinence based recovery and vice versa. I think there's room for all types of recovery including mandated treatment.
