The Walgreens a few blocks over at Post and Franklin is also in pretty bad shape. It’s been looted when I’ve visited, more than once.
The last time I was at that location was at the beginning of March. Two guys were running out of the store with their hands full of hairdryers. One employee was trying to stop them and the rest seemed resigned to the situation. Surreal.
From what I understand @Walgreens is taking a significant brunt of the shoplifting because of corporate policies around not reporting theft.
I don't have full intel on it - but someone in SF city gov told me Walgreens has unique policies.
Sometimes you see a security guard in a Walgreens. But if not, it’s Mad Max Thunderdome…. They have the nicest pharmacy people in the world in there, I feel bad for them.
Please tell me how the cost of labor affects their decision to close. Please tell me what percentage of profits companies get from merchandise sold in stores. Please explain how prop 47 effects these issues. Please explain how much these companies profit yearly
Walgreens published some information around the store closures. Apparently, the SF stores generate a high level of revenue, but also have far higher security costs and shrinkage (theft) costs. Shrinkage costs in SF stores have doubled in the last year according to Walgreens.
