I am watching American Circumcision on Netflix and I can tell you unequivocally that I am never circumcising my newborn child. Also, the Evil in Bird Box *may* be an uncircumcised penis, based on what the pro-circumcised crowd is saying.

The only thing I don't like about the anti circ crowd is they won't acknowledge that circumcision is sometimes medically necessary. As a general practice, no. But it is not equivalent to fgm

        Sounds like it is, though.

Biologically/anatomically it isn't. The purpose and effect is also not the same. There is not medical necessity for female circ basically ever.

Sounds like there are very few reasons for circumcision, either. But I am always genuinely surprised when men defend the practice. Speaks to the power of custom/tradition.

Well, up until a few years ago, evidence seemed to point to reduced UTI and STI incidence. Seems that's no longer the case. I wouldn't defend the tradition, but I prefer a reasonable argument based on evidence over the emotional one.

Hmm. If you can't get emotional about your penis, then what can you get emotional about? Seems clear to me, without emotion, that it is an unnecessary, cruel procedure. Worse, in many ways, than FGM.

I've talked to a few pediatricians about it when making that decision when I was becoming a parent. It is not worse. It is not equivalent. It is occasionally medically necessary. The documentary is propaganda

Like I said: I find it fascinating how much custom and tradition hold sway over people. There is no reason to do it to every boy who is born. The studies are flawed. Up until recently, pediatricians didn't think babies felt pain. Pediatricians can be wrong.

Knowing Sandra Bullock, it probably is. She rubs illegally harvested newborn foreskin on her face to stay young, and described her sons circumcision as the most beautiful day of her life

In what circumstances is circumcision "medically necessary?" I'm sure amputation of an arm is sometimes medically necessary, but penile cancer is extremely rare. And who on the "anti circ crowd" (by name please) is saying what you suggest? @wxrocks what are you talking about?
