2 / Verification has long been perceived as an endorsement. We gave verified accounts visual prominence on the service which deepened this perception. We should have addressed this earlier but did not prioritize the work as we should have.
3 / This perception became worse when we opened up verification for public submissions and verified people who we in no way endorse.

Hello @Twitter @TwitterSupport @verified . I think you did everything right by closing public submissions as it shouldn´t be a market where you can request a badge. A loyal twitter user should continue to use twitter as usual and wait till twitter gets in touch with you!

Coming up on 10 months now. I suggest not worrying about users too stupid to understand that identity verification is not an endorsement. If a check mark misleads people, pick a neutral symbol and reposition relative to the username.
Verification should be about if someone has submitted legitimate ID and is using their real name upon their account. Nothing else.
if people Really, honest to god think that verification has anything to do with being endorsed by twitter, quite frankly it's their own fault for being stupid. You need to bring this back to combat the mass amount of fake accounts. This has nothing to do with endorsement.
