As always, we’re committed to providing ample time to migrate. We will provide at least 90 days notice of deprecation date from when the Account Activity API becomes generally available to all developers. More specifics on timing to come.

stop harassing third party app developers. there’s a reason so many people can’t/won’t use your own apps. maybe think about that for a second?
-
Yeah good third party Twitter apps is what keeps me using Twitter.

Thank you,
@TwitterDev, for listening to feedback! To a lot of those replying to their tweet: Stop being jerks to them. You're not reinforcing the behaviour we need that way.https://twitter.com/TwitterDev/status/982346370882461696 … -
To be fair “delaying” != “fixing.” That said, being a jerk is pretty much never okay.
-
Giving the 3rd party tools the chance to revamp to use the new API while hopefully retaining functionality seems like a fix to me. The problem wasn't the API but lack of access in time, it sounds like.
-
I think it remains to be seen. They’ll get zero praise from me until their behavior to third party developers isn’t hostile. This is simply less hostile. Don’t forget, they’ve already stripped away so much.
-
I certainly haven't forgotten, but I also would rather praise this progress and encourage more in the future.
-
I think that’s the disconnect. I don’t view this as progress. They were guilted into delaying because of constructive criticism. The evidence presently suggests that they’re going to charge money for the replacement API, which could be render it useless for many indie apps.
-
So, the move from me will be continued constructive criticism. Delaying, but still charging, for this API isn’t good enough. Keep the pressure on.
-
I don't disagree, but I don't agree either, so this is turning into a should-be-f2f conversation. I'll disengage now rather than attempt nuance in a less-than-nuanced medium. :)

I will be *extremely* frustrated the day
@TwitterDev decides to lock down their platform the way@InstagramEng does. A client is the only way for me to see the content. If the client sucks, the experience sucks, regardless of content.

If that happens, it’ll be time to jump ship for Mastodon.
-
Sounds like an ideal solution but as with all non-mainstream social media, I haven’t heard of it and neither have many of the friends I follow on here.

It shouldn’t be delayed, it should be rescinded. 90% of my tweets come from
@tweetbot or a third party when on Android.@TwitterDev please don’t force us to go to a timeline full of ads and un-sequential tweets#BreakingMyTwitterhttps://twitter.com/TwitterDev/status/982346370882461696 … -
Oh no, ads. How terrible. It’s almost like the people who make the service deserve to get paid.
-
Fair point, but it should be my right to choose if I wanna see tweets as they arrive and not letting twitter decide what could be important for me. It’s annoying as heel to always click on “see this less often”
-
Agreed. But Twitter is a business, and they have to try to be in business 5 years from now. Unless they can force ads on third party clients, they’re just taking resources without giving back.
-
Of course and they deserve it because it’s a great tool yet, but being so close mind to devs is one of the many reasons twitter has stopped growing so long ago
-
Agreed. I hardly tweet anymore - Twitter for me mainly is for news, quick updates, or just what’s “happening now”. I don’t use it to socialize as often as I used to.
