  2. Our Android and IOS teams are also working on adding alt text to GIFs and will have support soon. We'll let you know when this functionality rolls out.

  3. Get those GIFs ready. Starting today, when you Tweet from you can add alt text to any GIF just like images. Just make sure you have the "compose image descriptions" setting turned on in your accessibility settings.

  4. We know that APNGs also allowed alt-text, and we’re currently working on adding alt-text to GIFs to make sure they’re accessible.

  5. We want everyone to have a safe experience on Twitter. APNGs were fun, but they don’t respect autoplay settings, so we're removing the ability to add them to Tweets. This is for the safety of people with sensitivity to motion and flashing imagery, including those with epilepsy.

  8. We’re aware of an issue that prevents people from adding image descriptions -- also known as alt-text -- on Android. This will be fixed early next week.

  9. With TalkBack enabled, people using Twitter for Android now have the ability to Like, Retweet, Reply or Share through a Double Tap and Hold gesture on a Tweet in the Home Timeline. Have any feedback? Try it out and let us know what you think!

  11. This week we added support for the new reduced motion setting to Twitter's Web app. If you've enabled this in your computer's settings, it'll automatically work. You can also enable it in Settings -> Accessibility

  13. And finally, for both iOS and Android, Twitter Cards in Tweets are now supporting screen readers — no more mystery Cards! VoiceOver and TalkBack will now read where activation will lead the user, the media type inside the Card, and the title on the Card

  14. Also on Android, we’ve added counts of all the social engagement each Tweet receives. At the end of each Tweet, users will hear the count of how many replies, Retweets, and Likes are associated with that Tweet. We didn’t want you to miss that top conversation.

  17. People using can now add image descriptions, also known as alternative text, when composing a Tweet. We’re excited to add this feature so images on Twitter are more accessible for everyone! Turn on image descriptions in your Twitter accessibility settings.

    Starting today, people using TweetDeck can add descriptions, also known as alternative text, to images in Tweets. With this update, we’re empowering people using TweetDeck to make their Tweets accessible to the widest possible audience.
