Gnome 3 sort of got me out of that flow due to its quirkiness. Back in MATE using them, and I'm kicking myself for losing the habit.

@Twirrim I really love virtual desktops, mostly for being able to throw a bunch of space-eating stuff off my main screen.

@thatcks I really love apps being full screen, so I tend to split virtual desktops based on "purpose" (console/web | communication | etc)
