The only compelling point in the entire piece is that Uber's huge ride dataset helps it pick fences efficiently... which is an argument for allowing or operating AVs in those fences, not developing them in-house.

I had a friend in high school that refused to do left hand turns. She got super stressed out when taking them in any traffic at all and just decided not to. Her ability to plan a route avoiding them was super impressive tho.
