they also happen to be the sponsors of the New York Health Act for a state single-payer system that Cuomo has dismissed as unworkable (and their legislative colleagues appear to agree since it has not moved after Democrats took control of both houses last year)

I have to say, the language of the bill is absolutely terrifying. There is no limits on the what cuomo could order once an executive order is declared. It is a wholesale transfer of power from the legislature to the governor.

(2) This gives the governor limitless authority to declare emergencies, including in response to #Coronavirusnyc, and then essentially do anything he thinks is appropriate in response. Not only does it undermine the state constitution, but there’s no reason why it was needed.
