I hated it tbh. It felt awkward. He may be good at what he's doing but some of the stuff he was saying was super personnal.

Of course it's personal, that's what these talks are about. I didn't feel like this specific conversation was awkward at all from either side. I think you should think about why you hated it, or why you perceived it as awkward even though neither of them seemed to.
