What's helped me personally was to define and universalize my standards for relationship value (curiosity, integrity, responsibility) so that I had one baseline. Not allowing exceptions and pursuing relationship hygiene was the hardest thing I've ever done, the best in hindsight.

This was such an important read. I have many friends who can relate to your story and can take courage from your brave act. Parents always define you being happy by how rebellious you arent, especially in their eyes. Its why they struggle to deal with us when were depressed.
