This situation needs to be resolved so these world-class surf contests stay in Hawaii. As a resident of the north shore and one of your constituents I can tell you there are already plenty of contests. Sure it's great for tourism and brings in money, but every additional contest is denying the public access to surf and creates traffic jams for residents .

Our beaches should not just be another commodity for these corporations to abuse. Great consideration should be taken in issuing permits.

Caldwell said, “The WSL missed deadlines in the process and, now, they are trying to take dates that others have applied for prior to the process being completed.” Why do you believe the WSL should be able to take dates from others who have applied? Aren't they in the wrong?
