And, as a patient, they quickly prescribe these drugs when they may not be necessary. The industry is eager to get patients on opioids then everyone is "dismayed" when they become addicts.

As a chronic pain patient, they do not quickly prescribe unnecessary drugs. I went through 3 years of torture before I was allowed pain meds.

Yesterday I saw my primary. Diagnosed with colitis, extreme pain. Received two antibiotics and directions to go to the ER if I wanted pain relief (which I would only need for 2-3 days). I’m immunosuppressed, and the ER is 40 min away and full of flu. Docs are afraid to rx.

You're absolutely correct. ALL of the Dr I work with are actually doing the OPPOSITE and refusing opioid med for people are in severe, acute pain.

Will you also hold the CDC and DEA responsible for the many thousands who have died from illicit fentanyl and heroin? Many of them likely being pain patients forced on to street drugs after being involuntarily withdrawn from necessary prescription opioids?pic.twitter.com/kIPic2sUMV

Or maybe the people that just decided to kill themselves because they couldn't stand the pain anymore? https://medium.com/@ThomasKlineMD/suicides-associated-with-non-consented-opioid-pain-medication-reductions-356b4ef7e02a …

Sweeping statements like this make it harder 4 ppl like my husband (3 spinal surgeries & still not fixed) - human beings in intense, chronic pain - 2 get medication they need in order to be able 2 MOVE. These ppl need 2 be considered in the govt’s version of “fixing the problem.”

Docs will give pills like pez dispensers if they make money. Id be interested if conjunctive medicine cannabis+opioids could save money AND lower doses. Opioids are dangerous to health and you should make an effort to take as little as possible. Big Pharma actively opposes this

And what about people who are legitimately prescribed opioids post surgery or for medical issues and do not turn into drug addicts? You realize that is the majority of the people who take these meds?

There has been no trickery since the last round of prosecutions. It’s already hard enough for *TERMINAL* patients to get these drugs in my state, how the hell much harder can you make our lives? I would run for your seat if I wasn’t terminal.

It looks like the landing page was moved here: http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/37474954/oxycontin-maker-will-stop-promoting-opioids-to-doctors … P.S. pharma corps are using lies & medical science fraud to deceive healthcare providers & consumers about the MMR & HPV vaccines too. Bogus safety studies & VAERS only reports 1% of actual vaccine injuries.

I'm a pharmacy tech and I see people dependent on these horrid drugs by no fault of their own...I see doctors prescribe them like candy. These companies must be held accountable for the addiction and deaths caused by their own misleading information and greed.

That’s all well and good Tulsi but we also need action now: Decriminalize, Safe-site injection facilities, expanding naloxone (needs to be less than $1), Clean needle exchange, addressing economic despair, addressing foster kids with real solutions to keep families together.

Perhaps. Yet there is a very strong relationship between the difficulty of obtaining narcotic pills and the proliferation of heroin use.https://www.acsh.org/news/2015/12/29/opioid-abuse-and-death-nothing-close-to-a-good-answer …

I wish I could say Vicodin stole a decade of my life, but I willingly gave them. Guided by doctors before I gave them up I was up to 90 10/500 per month. Most vets I know have a bag of meds or horrible addiction stories. Or both. We need more to like you Mam. Thankyou.

People please look at the correlation between the timeline between war in Afghanistan and the opioid crisis? Rocket science not needed! Vietnam created a drug epidemic too!

90% opioid pain killer recipients use their medicine responsibly Stop blaming opioids for what are really emotional weaknesses in 10% of pain patients It’s really an economic deficiency We only decry it now cuz white people are the victims

Yah, how about you back up those stats beyond your story Kelly. You’re lack of empathy concerns me to say the least. Should depressed patients just snap out of it too?
