that's tough when it's based on incarceration, which is all about separating ppl from society
Our criminal justice system must prepare those convicted of a crime to lead a successful life once they have paid their debt to society.

Agreed, for non violent offenders. However ,for violent and repeat offenders we are much too lenient. Repeat offenders are 99% of the problem in inner cities. At some point we have to say- we tried. But it's too late.

I'd say states can remove the many prohibitive barriers placed before returning citizens that are continuances of punitive sentence and make it extremely hard for them to simply live.

there have been highly successful programs like that, but private prisons prefer using convicts as a 36 cents an hour labor force
