There were also multiple coups in Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Peru, Ecuador, Suriname and elsewhere. Just from the start of the 20th century into the mid 1990s, Washington had its hands in no less than 41 coups across Latin America.

Making statements on issues like this are no small matter and have serious consequence. No apology can fix rushed and uneducated positions that affect people’s lives. The politically expedient thing to do in this case would have been to rush a statement out early.
