A politician can mention God if they want to, they're not passing any legislation. The founding fathers mentioned God constantly, but they didn't force people to believe in him. It was just a personal thing for them.

It isn't the religious beliefs, it's the fanatics that whom have gone too far throughout history. Sometimes a solid religious base can add to the moral turpitude of leadership qualities we don't always find in each, much less, our politicians. It can be good...
