The war on drugs may not have been intended to be racist but it has adapted itself to institutional racism, has become one more factor incarcerating Black men and increasing their death rate, actually changing the sex ratio for African Americans.https://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/22/upshot/areas-with-large-black-populations-have-the-smallest-shares-of-black-men.html …

It actually was intended to be exactly that. The Nixon administration used it to target black people and anti-war protestors so that they would be unable to vote! Here is a direct quote from John Ehrlichman, who worked under Nixon and even helped in Watergate.pic.twitter.com/cUKg7hnHvM

God I love this woman. Private "for profit" prisons are anathema to a decent society. And I'm no bleeding heart liberal, saying this. However, I know from experience, they are prone to corruption, lack of oversight, and ultimately counter-productive to rehabilitation.
-
I'm not even a liberal and I'm against for-profit-prisons, it seems like cruel and unusual punishment to allow people to profit off of others misery.

Tulsi is so right here. We have ruined the lives of millions. In the name of public safety we have imprisoned millions over a perspective on moral and social behavior. While at the same time, we allow big pharm to create millions of addicts. Government sanctioned drugs for all..

I am a fan of all those things you just said. But would you mind being more specific regarding "real criminal justice reform"? What would that entail, exactly?
-
We can start by releasing all non-violent drug offenders & expunging their records so when they apply for work they don't have to detail the drug offense, and they'd have a legit 2nd chance at life. The way it is now, these folks can't get jobs & often resort back to old ways.

- Decriminalize all drug use - Legalize marijuana and many other drugs. Give adults the freedom to decide what to put in their own body - Ban private prisons and release non violent offenders - End cash bail - Limit fines on ability to payhttps://twitter.com/TulsiGabbard/status/1148578801124827137 …

And the War on Drugs isn’t just a figure of speech. Especially in L. America it was often part of covert ops to collude and manipulate drug lords into our Regime Change Wars which then created refugee immigration crisis.
