#prisons in America use solitary imprisonment even for minor disciplinary violations. It can destroy some. In other countries it is used only for offenders who are a danger to others. A friend sentenced for two years was sent to one for days for tying shoe laces at wrong moment.

There is an undercurrent of vile cruelty that runs through
#America visible in places like prisons. It can destroy not just individuals but also the country if not checked. - 3 more replies

Pay debt to society also?

Being taken out of society and stripped of basic freedoms is the payment.

American prisons put men in cages like beasts and then expect them to become better men. What our prison system wants is not to reform men but to break them.

What's your position on private prisons?

She's against them. I can't remember in which interviews she says it, but she has said it more the once. High recidivism should not be incentivized by profit.

Poverty has been the primary driver of crime. An impoverished person turns to crime out of desperation and ends up in prison. Then because of their prison sentence they're stuck in poverty and the cycle repeats. This is why job training while in prison is so important.

Wrong UNTREATED/ UNMONITORED forensic (violent) mental illness is the driver 4 crime Street drugs R the #1 trigger 4 the forensic mentally ill turning violent Poverty comes when a parent is mentally ill, cannot work, is missing, or lacks insight to care 4 their children/s

Thanks, Tulsi. I know someone who's in jail awaiting her trial. Her life nosedived once she became a young adult, with drugs becoming a huge factor in the nightmare she faced. The kid needs a break to get back on track.

I agree. On a side note
other species shouldn't be treated like that either. But we don't do that even for our fellow humans.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
