We must ban the sending our plastics to Asia for recycling. Much of it they dump in the Ocean as it is unable to be recycled. American companies must retool to plastics that can be recycled domestically only.
-
They stopped buying our plastic (recycling) in 2018. So instead we just throw it into our own landfills. Maybe we would should nationalize waste management and create a fully vertically integrated system? I would! Everything is recyclable.

Over 90 percent of this waste is generated by ten rivers, between East Africa and the Russian Far East (five of the ten are in China). We're already doing our part. China, Russia, Pakistan, Indonesia, Thailand, and some others, are the problem here, not the nations of the West.

Tulsi - we desperately need you and your responsible sense of internationalism in the network for the 17 Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. Maybe on World Happiness Day March 20 we can find a way to build consensus on protecting water and all life therein.

Plastic is the greatest addiction people have. It's greater than all the crack, cigarettes and opioids combined.
-
What about social media?

This is what happens to cows in India; this is really horrible. Why aren't manufacturers forced to clean up? If I made this mess in my yard, I'd be evicted from the park & homeless.

Oh those greedy corporations again! No, plastic is here because the people want it, because the people find it convenient.

The people too need to take active part in minimizing the environmental damage and in order to achieve it 3R principale must be adopted, 1. Reduce the uses of plastic items, 2. Resuse the plastic items like bottles, containers, packaging materials etc, and then 3. Recycle them,
-
When I go shopping for produce, my only option comes in plastic no matter where I shop. You can’t blame me for that. Consumers can only do so much, and many of us are doing all we can. Corporations can change everything and they don’t.

Seems that most of the ocean plastic pollution comes from rivers in Asia. Need to start mitigation at the source. Starting with why it gets into the rivers in the first place. https://www.theoceancleanup.com/sources/ https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2018/06/90-of-plastic-polluting-our-oceans-comes-from-just-10-rivers/ …
