If it is proven that Smollett fabricated a hoax, then he will have done a terrible disservice to actual victims and future victims of hate crimes. It will be much less likely for future victims to be believed.

I usually love you Tulsi but this is a REALLY bad take ... we literally have cops murder innocent black folk in this country on a daily basis who don't get "prosecuted to the full extent of the law"
-
People are now less likely to believe things like that because of hoaxes such as these.

Tulsi - I like you. But people who feel that they need an apology for the actions of one person are wrong unless they were personally victimized by his shenanigans. He did a dumb thing. His actions should not reflect upon the entire black and/or gay community. Let's let it go.
-
HELL NO. This person should be prosecuted and not give a slap on the wrist. What he did deeply effects the LGBT+ and black communities and people who actually experience these hate crimes. You are doing a great disservice to these people by pretending this never happened.

I still don't know who this guy is. I'm not sure if the "American people" really feel the need for an apology.
-
Doesn't matter who he is, it matters what he did.

Honestly, certain he is going to be suffering what is termed as “natural consequences“ for the rest of his life, bc of this. Think it far more crucial, we begin holding accountable govt officials who lie us into wars, or bad policies that cause real misery & pain for millions.
-
I think that's true but also true that he needs to spend time behind bars - he needs some time to think

Jail is bad. Bad things happen to ppl in jail. Jails change ppl... Not in a good way. Let's stop creating criminals. Let's create & enforce fair laws and bury laws that are incredibly oppressing to most everyone unless they're rich.

she didn't say send him to jail

Please don’t weigh in on these kinds of things

I agree! It makes me wonder if advocating overly strongly for fierce prosecution of an individual (possibly one with mental health issues) is what she will be focusing on as president instead of the real issues.

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up, it's not like there's a shortage of hate crimes, stuff like this is just, like you said, hurts the real victims of hate crimes,
#JussieSmollett needs to apologize publicly, lose his job and accept the legal consequences of his crime -

No he needs to apologize to the Black and LGBT+ community and those who worked on the case. The American people were not victimized by his lies like those communities will be. Now disgusting people will use this incident as ammo to vilify all accusations against people they like.

They count as Americans

Then hold cops accountable too pls
-
Oh my God, cops are already being held accountable, don't go screaming about cops being above the law when as soon as any abuse of power happens, the whole country is asking for the cop to be fired and imprisoned
