Create incentives for good teachers. Weed out the bad.

The biggest incentive is autonomy in the classroom. Most teachers don't like teaching to the test or using tightly scripted curriculum designed by vendors more concerned with making a profit than teaching kids.

Public school was designed to teach children to sit still and take orders for 8 hours. We need to change the way we teach and embrace the future for ourselves as our kids.
-
We can do that without privatizing public schools. Give regular public school teachers the flexibility most states give charters, which are usually run by people who know nothing about education except that they can bribe politicians to give them a contract to do it.

For the last couple decades We have consistently dumbed down our schools. To the detriment of all Schools need resources in order to teach. Yet we have seen their budgets being reduced again and again Most high school grads can’t pass a GED

Agree. We need more private, charter, and homeschooling.
-
There's a lot less standards & quality control at all three. To the degree that charters and privates do better, it's because they can cherry pick their students & kick out those who are struggling.

If teachers worked more than 8 months out of the year they could rationize the salary of someone who works 12 like the rest of us.

As a part time college professor, I can tell you that it is getting more and more difficult to teach real classes to real students.

I am a medical doctor in my country and my brother is a teacher. We talk about our experiences, achievements and obstacles every day, all i can say is that he has it worst than me: parents, lessons, learning curve, sorethroat. He deserves a just payment just as i do.

And stop letting the wealthy dictate public education policy through their foundations and privatization scams. They are literally chasing teachers out of the profession and deterring new college students from choosing it as a career.
