The US's continued alliance with Saudi Arabia is abhorrent. Last night I met with @BaqeeOrg. I stand with them to condemn the destruction of Islamic heritage sites in Mecca and Medina by the Saudi government as a continuation of the Saudi's extremist/exclusivist ideology.

Saudi Arabia's control of Mecca & exclusion of Shias from that holiest Islamic site is an unspoken cause of the interfactional turmoil within the Islamic faith. Worse still, Saudi Arabia has turned Mecca to a gaudy expensive tourist trap rather than a site for humble pilgrimage.
Any site with a historical heritage that's in a danger zone needs protection from the UN. I'll never forget 2000 when the Taliban destroyed the 4,000 y/o Buddha statues. I don't care if it's Jerusalem, Mecca, St. Patrick's Cathedral or the Eldridge Street/Synagogue Museum
