The root cause of mass immigration on our southern border is our history of US military intervention in Latin America that left countries destroyed. Before we talk about a wall, we need to end our ongoing threats of intervention - this time in Venezuela. #SOTU

We haven't intervened though. There's no US military in Venezuela. We just agreed with the rest of south America that Chavez wasn't the legitimate dictator anymore.

our gov has been hard at work for decades to foment this, intervention comes in many forms. they have regime change down to a science, direct military intervention is last resort but there are many resorts before that and many resorts still to go in Venezuela

You are absolutely lost about this issue. The main root of immigration is economic opportunity. Corrupt politicians, both left and right, have impoverished our countries so people go somewhere better. Venezuelan was decimated by a socialist regime. Greetings from Ecuador.

The lack of economic opportunity in many SA countries isn't completely separable from US interventions. Maybe it wouldn't be paradise but having the world's superpower working on crushing their economy certainly didn't help.

Didn't so much mess with Honduras as turn a blind eye to an oligarch-driven coup in 2009.

Humanitarian reasons!!! The average Venezuelan lost 23 pounds in the last year. Starvation, lack of medicine, migration of millions ! It is because of humanitarian reasons that US should STOP buying their oil, which extends Venezuelan corrupt and Sovietic style tyranny.

I have heard about this claim that Venezuelans have lost over 20 lbs but I don't buy it. None of the crowds I saw at the protests looked like they were starving. As a matter of fact there were a lot of fat people. Where are all of these people dying from mass starvation?

No. The root *causes* (not a single cause) of mass migration at the #southern #border are: 1) incompetent leaders in #Mexico and #CentralAmerica; 2) weak controls at the border itself; and 3) US generous or permissive #immigration policies upon entry. #BuildTheWall #wall
