Wow. What about local control & states' rights? This is not partisan - there are both Democrat & Republican officials from coastal states who are speaking out because they don't want offshore drilling in their waters. This is a bad bill. #protectouroceanshttps://twitter.com/thehill/status/1006980810384297986 …

States should be allowed to charge the drillers to drill off their shores. And naturally, the price they charge would be too costly even for oil companies. Also, states should fine companies who spill - AND companies who steal clean water from them.pic.twitter.com/U0e9dRO4vg

I like your idea. Personally, I think states should JAIL oil executives and SEIZE their assets when rigs under their charge spill.

States rights was only about keeping black people segregated. The GOP are the biggest hypocrites in politics. At least you give a shit about the environment unlike most Democrats.

These ideologues believe in "state's rights" as much as they believe in "free markets." The only rights the GOP believes in are those of #EconomicParasites & the corps they run to exploit people and planet - for profit.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Off the coast of Santa Barbara and Ventura I grew up with all these oil platforms. Must have had at least 3 large spills destroying beautiful beaches and wild life. That oil doesn’t even stay in the Country. They sell it to outsiders.

Because establishment democrats and republicans are corporatists and sellout the American people and they want to get rid of everyone who actually supports people like you and me so they can continue what they're doing.

State AG's need to take it to court and block the bill. While States Rights have almost always been abused and used to deny citizens rights and protections, they exist for valid reasons.

It's objectively bad because it clearly encourages fossil fuel use past the point of danger. We could reasonably cause irreversible harm if we went past the carbon budget.

Sorry Tulsi, that states rights stuff is reserved for the red states. Didn't you know? It's the Ryan-McConnell way. Get rid of those two obstructionists and things could change.

The bill actually sounds fair to me, states retain their rights to block as much drilling as they'd like, but need to compensate Federal government for lost revenue if that exceeds 50% of blocks. What's your specific concern?
