*Reading forum posts about a car part I am replacing and find one poster pretty knowledgable* "Who is this guy? He seems to know his stuff." *Looks at name, realizes it was me on an account I made 8 years ago and forgot about*

I like that moment in Country Roads where he sings that life is "older than the trees" and also "younger than the mountains" So... between 100 years and 500,000,000 years? OK. Thanks for narrowing that one down for me

Usually don't post stuff like this, but was really pleased to finally make the cut and earn the Backgammon Masters Awarding Body title I was aiming for (Master - Class III). Nice accomplishment of a medium-term goal -- now to get to M2!

Between the Hellmuth/amateurs thing and a close friend winning a large Bad Beat Jackpot, my interest in taking up poker has gone from a 2/100 to about 3/100. The needle is moving!

There were a lot of Auk related puns and seemingly always one question relating to "Tom Swifties". I'm guessing the advent of the smart phone killed it since cheating would be too easy.

Does anybody else remember doing "Knowledge Master Open" at school? 200q Multiple choice quiz done on a computer (projected onto a screen for us), points awarded for accuracy but also speed. Your school competed as a team. Nobody I've ever talked to seems to remember this.

- Oreos dipped in coffee >>>>> Oreos dipped in milk. - Mushrooms typically add nothing to most dishes while having a texture as nasty as their name implies.

Though I liked some of the creative responses, the correct answer is that Jane lives in the orange part of the FL panhandle, while John lives in the yellow part of Oregon. It is during in the once yearly time span when Jane has "fallen back" one hour, and John hasn't yet.

My friend Nack told me a nice riddle recently: John lives in a west coast state. Jane lives in an east coast state. They are each at home, speaking to the other via Zoom. John says "What time is it there?" Jane tells him. John says, "That's exactly what time it is here!" How?

Had to take a photo of my latest board 🔥. I actually had the whole thing built around these old checkers from the 1970s I found on eBay but couldn't find another board they fit well on.

Made this nice protective cover for my new board over this past week. All by hand, and definitely amateurish, but I'm pleased with how it came out!

Driving on I-10 West from Houston to San Antonio and seeing the signs for Buc-ee's like my favorite Simpsons sight-gag of all time:

I used the phrase "pony express" yesterday and a friend pointed out it was odd how that became so engrained in our vernacular despite only existing for A YEAR AND A HALF. How?

Twittersphere: Thoughts on this exterior fabric for a backgammon board? I was initially not feeling it (kind of expected a more 1960s-Sputnik sorta design), but could see this growing on me.

FWIW, I've never forgiven M&Ms for that massively overhyped poll around ~2002 to decide whether to add purple, aqua, or pink M&Ms to the standard bag. Purple wins the event, complete with a celebratory concert by Ashanti. They were added for a month, then never heard from again.

A few weeks ago, I stumbled into this game that is perhaps the best solitary-style game I've ever come across. There are seemingly no written resources on it (save one article), but it seems to have more depth than expected. Think "Go, but for loners". icolorlines.com
