it's really messy at first, this one involved a dremel to rough in the cut, tweezers to remove bent over chunks of the metal can, sanding, more sanding, yet more sanding, polishing, inspection under the microscope to see how close to the bond wire i was getting, then more sanding

Would the third (collector) lead... on the part of the can that was ground away I assume... have been welded to the eyelet itself or was there an actual connection to the die? How about a big TO-3 next?
it was welded to the eyelet. the TO-3 would take forever. hmm.
