I can assure you that you can't plug a 1/8" microphone jack into a jet engine!
(you might already know this but other people might not) you see the same thing on patch panels a lot: one row of inputs and one of outputs, connected together by default, with the connection being switched off if you plug a patch cable into either; it's called "normalling"
