    On July 1-4, I will visit Iceland at the invitation of FM to meet PM , 🇮🇸 Parliament Speaker, & rector. Iceland is a strong supporter of democratic changes in Belarus. This is the second non-EU country I have a working visit to.

    Transfer of and to house arrest will not solve their fate, especially the fate of those 500 more political prisoners- imprisoned, tortured, raped. 🇧🇾 regime must not be allowed to trade in prisoners. They must release all and hold new elections.

    Raman Pratasevich & Sofia Sapega are on house arrest, but they are still held hostage by Lukashenka's regime. It's crucial not to allow the regime to trade political prisoners – this is the only way to achieve freedom for all Belarusians imprisoned on politically motivated cases.

    In the light of the adoption of sectoral sanctions by the EU against Lukashenka's regime, I call on the to deny any payments to the regime in Belarus. Funds can be reoriented towards Belarusian civil society & the private sector where it is not related to the regime.

    Trials today in against Mikalai Statkevich, Siarhei Tsikhanouski, Ihar Losik & others from opposition. They risk long sentences for expressing their opinion. We demand immediate release of political prisoners. 🇸🇪 Embassy & other diplomats tried to observe.

    My husband Siarhei Tsikhanouski is being tried today, together with Mikalai Statkevich, Ihar Losik & other bloggers & activists. Diplomats weren’t allowed into the courtroom. Siarhei is facing 15 years in jail. I don't know what to expect but definitely not justice. 1/8

    Siarhei was put in a punishment cell several times on absurd charges: once for being unshaved. He was in a humid prison basement with little to no sunlight. Prisoners are not given bed linen and warm clothing. They often get sick with COVID. It should be considered torture. 7/8

    I always listen to the recording of Siarhei singing the L'Estaca-inspired song "Mury" at the hardest & most important moments of my life. I listened to it when I had to flee Belarus. It gives me the strength to overcome challenges & stay the course. 6/8

    Last October, Lukashenka personally visited Siarhei & other political prisoners in the KGB prison. Imagine you are a hostage being offered a deal – release in exchange for loyalty. Siarhei stood his ground & didn't betray his ideals. He supports me from prison. 5/8

    Siarhei has been in jail since May 29, 2020. I haven't seen him ever since. He didn't hear his daughter asking, “Mom, are you sure that Daddy isn’t dead?”. And he didn't hear his son's response, "Our dad is held hostage." He was only allowed to talk to me once in over a year. 4/8

    When Siarhei was arrested & couldn’t file documents for his candidacy, I decided to run in his place. I believe if something is important for my husband, it's also important for me. Also wanted to help the people of Belarus to have a choice & vote for a candidate they admire. 3/8
