Rap artists would be in serious trouble if that was the case so definitely not. Unfortunately there’s no black & white when it comes to YT guidelines either. One person can say one curse in one song & be demonetized and another song full of cursing can go completely unnoticed

*all types of artists would be in serious trouble

I don’t think it’s unfair to say that rap as a genre has more explicit language that other genres. When you submit a song to distrokid and pick rap as the genre it automatically ticks the explicit box. Not saying it’s guaranteed but explicit language is definitely more prevalent.

When Rock music was popular there were dozens of mainstream bands who swore every other word but it was somehow different. There are artists in every genre including rap who swear and others who don’t, I think it’s unfair to put any genre in a box regardless of ratio

Rock also has a history of cursing yes but pop, country, jazz, indie rock, alternative MOSTLY do not. I don’t think I’m stating earth shattering revelations

My entire point in saying this was, it bothers me when people generalize certain genres of music (specifically hip hop). There are rappers who curse and others who don’t. Never disagreed with you, still think it’s a shitty example

I completely understand but I still say that generalization is based on fact. I don't even see it as a bad thing tbh. It's a part of the attitude & rawness. It's literally part of rap's appeal but we can certainly agree to disagree

I don't see it as a bad thing either, but I would hate for a company like YouTube to deem all rap non advertiser friendly based off of generalizations (I know that's a reach, but it's the first thought that entered my head lol) I wouldn't put it past them if that's the image

Omg that would be horrible and would absolutely be terrible for all artists regardless of explicit language

I can see it now “Rap music gets a yellow dollar sign until being further reviewed by one of YouTubes teams. This may take 24-3,789 hours.”

“Sorry your 808 hits so hard it’s offensive to most advertisers.”
