We did hear him disparaging McCain, but all he did with a gold star family is call out the father who used his sons death to try to score a point against Trump. I saw the speech, I felt sorry for the grieving mother that the father was talking like that.

He told a grieving mother of a killed soldier: "he knew what he had signed up for"! And that was supposed to be a condolence phone call!

So saying to someone the reality of death in conflict/war by the words he knew what he signed up for is harsh, it’s not. It is a statement of the reality of war and testament of their bravery.
