It is. It really is.
I get that it’s tough, and I know that remembering the details of the last moments can be painful, but it’s what we sign up for. It’s part of the price we pay for having these relationships.

Been there, done that, don't look forward to it again. Although your heart is broken and you can't replace your best friend there is one waiting for you to adopt them and take them home.

Why a mate takes it upon himself to humanely end his dogs suffering. It thinks it’s going hunting (which it loves beyond anything), gets a scotch fillet, & quick shot it never saw. It’s tough for him, but reckons he owes it & it’s done with love. Some people find this abhorrent?!

At the animal shelter I volunteer for, whenever we have to have an animal put down, we always have a volunteer stay with the animal and hold their paw, 'cause they don't have a family so it's the the last act of kindness we can do for them to help them and prevent their suffering

100% truth in this. Good work!

Ever since I read this Postsecret card a few years ago I decided I would never leave my animals when they're being put down. It's the hardest thing imagineable but I love them too much to not support them and tell them it's okay when they need me.pic.twitter.com/ZDjKnGElN6

Exactly, exactly, and exactly. They’re still breathing, so they need you. I can remember Foley’s little face, and telling him he’d get his legs back. Most of all, saying he was a good boy and time to go to sleep - same as we did every night. And off he went. Same as every night.

I was astounded when I read this yesterday. How could anyone possibly abandon their pet at that time? It’s baffling.
