New authors seem to have that problem a lot. Even if they get everything else right, their dialogue is janky.

@AlexZiebart one thing I've seen new authors do a lot is over-describe characters and settings. Let the story and the reader do the work!

@oliviadgrace I struggle with that myself with placesetting. You gotta paint a picture but it's hard to tell when the picture is complete.

@AlexZiebart It's interesting to go through the classics and greats to see the extent of their visual descriptions. Spoilers: almost none.
