I don’t want to fight you but I do want to ask - why is having his seat so critical when it doesn’t mean a united vote on something this important? It’s not a rhetorical question. Are we poisoned by insider party politics to the point where we will fight to keep ANY Dem?
It's important because if Manchin doesn't keep his WV seat, it will go to a Republican. It's just plain dumb to give up a Dem cuz his voting sometimes (often?) sucks. We need as many Democratic Senators as we can get to try to retake control of committees.

I hear you but every Democrat has to decide at what point a declared Democrat isn’t quite a Democrat. Manchin is making his own bed.

When it comes time to determine which party takes control of committees, votes aren't looked at, only the (D) or (R) after the Senator's name. Manchin has a (D) after his name. That is ALL that matters right now. We are in a CRISIS & we can't throw any (D) overboard. Period.

I appreciate that but surely you appreciate that from the outside it looks like the Dems routinely get shanked by these kinds of politicians who kill the ACA public option or yield power to elect frat boy rapey partisans to SCOTUS

What I appreciate is that in 2018, we need as many bodies with (D)s after their names in the House and Senate, and I am not going to play purity politics and beg others not to do so , as well.

Are you kidding? He isn't going to be on every committee, first of all, and how about we actually get control of the committees before you hand-wring about that? I just don't get how any Dem could consider fighting against him right now.

I have heard this bullshit argument for too long. A D behind his name means Democrat and that he should vote to move a Democratic agenda forward, not vote against us.

I concur. If Sen. Manchin is voted out, it will be years before WV elects another Dem in that spot.
