Even pretending that women weren't speaking candidly about abortion, that's a pretty normal reaction to e.g. being theatened with jail or risking grey market abortions from off-license doctors.

There *are* big movements in feminism towards alienating mothers and denying the realities of abortion, but those lose traction when rights are secured.
It's almost like people feel less inclined to be reasonable when they're angry and afraid. Fancy that.
