Yeah, it does offend some people. Never could figure out why, though.
In no other context do we tolerate obnoxious assholes, nor do we waste time on listening to things we're not interested in hearing... but on Twitter you're supposed to, unconditionally?

Maybe this is because people assume you'd mute them over a minor infraction or something. I don't know. It's weird.

I see the sense in that, though I suppose I can understand why someone might be upset. I tend to be even more surgical: I block the most obnoxious accounts the people I follow retweet.
But I also totally get sucked into twitter sometimes, so maybe I do need to mute more.

E.g. I follow some people with obnoxious political views, but I've muted all the pundits they retweet, so I don't see their politics much anymore.
