On the other hand, I've often felt the desire to mock the many terrible pundits, journalists, pseudoscientists, politicians and various other charlatans on here. But that desire has receded considerably.

That was the crux of it. I dearly wish some of them harm (there's your reminder for the day that I don't even pretend to be a Buddhist), but this does not harm them - just me, since I waste my time.
