Every country affected has had either massive downturns in the economy, a long history with Nazism, recent political upheaval and/or mass erosion in civil liberties.
Nazis are vultures. They will only take over if a country is already half-dead.

Plus,, you don't even -need- nazis.
Poland does not have a big Nazi problem, but aside from the UK/Ukraine/Hungary/Austria (apparently the letter U is bad), they're the most fascistic country in the EU.
Massive loss in rule of law, economic stability etc. in the past 10 years.

Every person with much pigment in the skin I've met in this country has been attacked/threatened/ostracized, they are terrified of all migrants (except ukrainians for some reason), nationalism is a massive problem and they are eager supporters of Trump & Nato...
But not nazis.

In fact, the changes to the judiciary the ruling party are trying to push through is putatively about rooting out ex-communists - a non-issue at this point, given most of those judges are long dead or retired, or were forced out two decades ago.
But it sells to their base.

This is why I hate suggestions like illegalizing rallies. I'm fine if a few dudes and dudettes in masks show up to counterprotest or beat the crap out of nazis (or are we pretending those nazis don't murder people, given the opportunity?)
But the State? No thanks.

Yeah, except most nazi recruits are A) cops, B) veterans and C) losers & bums down on their luck.
Increasing the number of aggrieved does the opposite of anything good.
The solution is in the opposite direction: dismantle the police state, improve society. Won't happen, but...

You will notice that in every instance where the nazis killed someone at a rally, there was minimal interference from the cops.
Plenty of cops caught on tape in nazi parades. It's a very short path.
These are the people you are giving power to disrupt MORE rallies? Really?

They use their Great Peacekeeping Power for amazing things like:
- Beating up students
- Killing blacks
- Shutting down legal protests
- Jailing people for misdemeanors
- Raping teenagers held on probation
Cops need *fewer* rights, not more.

I'm saying that more impunity does not fix issues caused by impunity.
It has nothing to do with the rules. The rules are fine. It's the way you are allowed to enforce them that isn't.
You will notice that cops do not actually go to jail for shooting unarmed people. They're supposed to.
They are given military equipment they are not supposed to have.
They disrupt *legal* protests.
They can jail you for misdemeanors with scant evidence.
Impunity, not rules.

(I should say, not all the rules are fine - but most of them probably are. Doesn't mean adding *more* will solve anything. It's just another excuse for cops to fuck with you.)
