In fairness, I'm not sure if this is always true, but it seems to model well onto my own experiences.
Dishonesty is foolish & self-destructive.

People get confused - partly because of cultural pathology & con techniques preying on social obligation, coercing you to overshare - hence, "honesty" can seem stupid.
But it's not very honest to share things you don't want to share. That is its own form of dishonesty.

People are trained not to say "no" gracefully, so they think the only options are some variation on "fuck off!" or "ooook, I guess", which is simply untrue.
But it takes training to get this right, especially when people expect more of you than they have a right to. Difficult.
